YOUNG PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD
Crystal Palace FC Foundation community coach, Jamie Broughton, has been recognised for his contribution to youth work with a Creating Chances ‘Young Person of the Year’ Award at the annual London & Quadrant Housing Association’s awards ceremony in November 2015.
The Creating Places Awards were established by L&Q in 2007, to recognise those residents who make a positive contribution to their local community and neighbours. The ceremony was held at London’s The Dorchester Hotel and hosted by ‘Birds of a Feather’ actress, Lesley Joseph.
Jamie is himself an alumnus of L&Q’s Breaking Barriers programme, which was delivered by the Crystal Palace FC Foundation back in the summer of 2013 to address some of the social and cultural tensions in the borough.
Now a FA Level 2 accredited coach, Jamie, said: “I have changed my focus and outlook on life and now direct my energy into developing my career. By harnessing the skills I learnt on the course I have become a successful and confident coach. I have already achieved more than I thought I could a few years back.”
The Crystal Palace FC Foundation are running L&Q holiday programmes in Croydon throughout school holiday periods in 2015/2016, as part of the London-wide L&Q ‘One Goal’ programme, which includes structured sporting activities and training/volunteering opportunities.

PRINCE’S TRUST PROGRAMME ALUMNI
While Emmanuel has not been the direct recipient of an award the Foundation felt it necessary to give him special mention on this page for his performance as a Crystal Palace FC Foundation and Prince’s Trust spokesperson back in November 2015.
Prince’s Trust alumni and now Crystal Palace FC Foundation community coach, Emmanuel, gave a personal account of his journey from a project participant to a fully qualified coach during a live panel discussion, alongside Crystal Palace FC coach, John Salako and forward Fraizer Campbell, which was broadcast by Sky Sports News.
Emmanuel is a fantastic example of a young person who had the drive and determination to better their lifestyle and was supported through that journey by the Foundation. Emmanuel gained both the qualifications and knowledge he needed to succeed, and was armed with the tools to create a meaningful career for himself and open opportunities for his future.
